Donald Trump won Indiana in Tuesday’s presidential election, adding his running mate’s home state to his column.
Republican VP nominee Mike Pence, Indiana’s governor, voted in the Hoosier State on Tuesday morning and his candidacy may have given Trump a lift. Trump secured his party’s nomination after the Hoosier State’s May primary, and the GOP nominee’s team surely hopes his victory on Election Day will be a harbinger of others to come across the industrial Midwest.
Pence tweeted a message thanking his home state for being the first to be projected as voting for Trump on Tuesday night.
Thank you Indiana for making our state first on the board to vote to Make America Great Again! @realDonaldTrump

Several statewide races are competitive in Indiana, including a Senate race and the governor’s race to replace Pence. The Senate race could go a long way to determining whether Republicans keep control of the Senate in 2017.
