Judge Roy Moore said Thursday he has “no reluctance” to run for political office again in the future, including a potential run for the Alabama governorship.
In a statement, Moore took issue with news reports claiming he said he does not plan to run for political office ever again, pointing to his comments at a recent press conference where he said he does not “at this time.”
“To clarify, as I said in my response, I have no plans at this time to run for office,” Moore said in the statement. “Nevertheless, plans change.”
“If the opportunity arises to make a difference, I will have no reluctance to again run for political office, including that of Governor,” Moore added.
The former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court’s initial remarks came at a press conference announcing a defamation lawsuit against his accuses, who alleged sexual improprieties against him during his run for the Senate last fall.
Moore was defeated by Sen. Doug Jones, D-Ala., in December.
