‘They should be ashamed’: Trump hits Democrats on Cabinet delays

President Trump said Tuesday that Democrats’ decision to slow-walk his Cabinet nominees through the Senate is just another reason why Washington is broken.

“When will the Democrats give us our Attorney General and rest of Cabinet! They should be ashamed of themselves! No wonder D.C. doesn’t work!” Trump tweeted.

Only three of Trump’s nominees have been confirmed at this point — Secretary of Defense James Mattis, Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly and Central Intelligence Agency Director Mike Pompeo.

Democrats have promised to fight the rest of Trump’s nominees, a reflection of how much the Democratic base opposes the new president. Thirteen of Trump’s Cabinet picks are still awaiting confirmation, but some have yet to receive a hearing in front of the relevant committees.

An even bigger fight is looming and expected to start Tuesday night: Trump has announced he plans to pick a Supreme Court justice nominee to fill the spot emptied by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. Some Democrats have promised to fight any candidate they don’t like using Senate procedures.

Trump began Tuesday by mocking Democrats for their rally outside the Supreme Court on Monday, which was marred by technical difficulties.

“Nancy Pelosi and Fake Tears Chuck Schumer held a rally at the steps of The Supreme Court and mic did not work (a mess)-just like Dem party!” Trump tweeted.
