Defiant Roger Stone lawyer says his client is ‘vindicated’ by Mueller indictment

Roger Stone’s lawyer on Friday said his client is “vindicated” by the indictment over lying to Congress and obstruction of justice because it proves there is no evidence of collusion with Russian in the 2016 campaign.

“They found no Russian collusion or they would have charged him with it,” Grant Smith said in a statement about the longtime associate of President Trump. “Roger Stone is vindicated by the fact that there was no Russian collusion.”

Smith also noted that Stone made misstatements simply because of forgetfulness. Statements due to inconsistent memory were “immaterial,” he added.

Stone was taken into custody early Friday morning after armed FBI agents raided his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was indicted on seven counts, including witness tampering, making false claims to Congress, and obstruction of justice.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders says the arrest has nothing to do with Trump or the White House.
