Another member of Johnny Depp‘s security testified Thursday in the actor’s heated defamation trial, telling the jury that he has witnessed Amber Heard throw things at him and even observed scratches on Depp.
Malcolm Connolly testified remotely from his home in Essex, England, and said he never saw injuries on Heard. However, he did see Depp with “a scratch every once in a while” and “swelling” on his face. He has worked as Depp’s security guard since 2006 and is still currently employed by the actor.
Connolly was once on a private jet with the actors, according to his testimony, when he saw Heard throw a plastic cigarette lighter that bounced off of Depp’s chest. In response, Depp simply “tipped his hat and put his head against the window.”

On another occasion, Connolly said he arrived at the penthouse suite Depp shared with Heard and saw a can of soda be thrown from the mezzanine, hitting the TV stand. While he didn’t see who threw it, he could hear Heard’s voice upstairs.
“This can of pop smashes on that with a force, really hard,” Connolly said. “I hear it spraying all over the place.”
A picture from the celebrity couple’s honeymoon was shown in court, featuring a smiling Depp with a slightly swollen face. Connolly pointed out the swelling but didn’t provide an explanation of how Depp was injured.
On the night Depp’s finger was severed, Connolly was present and able to drive him to the hospital. He took a picture of Depp that showed a burn mark Depp claimed Heard had given him after extinguishing a cigarette on his face.
“F*** off, you f****** coward — with your f****** boys like you always do,” Connolly remembers Heard saying as he escorted Depp to the hospital. He described Heard as being “crazy” when he arrived on the scene.
The security guard also testified that he saw the two change throughout their relationship, with Heard becoming “frosty” and Depp getting “quieter.” Connolly also spoke about Depp’s drug and alcohol use, claiming he only witnessed Depp smoke marijuana and drink alcohol.
“I think Jack Sparrow is more drunk than Johnny Depp,” Connolly said to a laughing courtroom. “In the 20 years I’ve been with Johnny, I think I’ve seen him drunk twice.”
Heard’s lawyers questioned Connolly about a time in which Depp was allegedly so drunk that he exposed his penis while trying to urinate in a foyer.
“I think I would have remembered if I’d seen Mr. Depp’s penis,” Connolly said as Depp laughed.
A third veteran security guard, Starling Jenkins, also testified Thursday, discussing a search for Depp’s phone after it was thrown off the roof of the Eastern Columbia Building in Los Angeles. Jenkins ultimately found the phone in the possession of a homeless person, whom he paid off with food and $420. Heard’s phone was also allegedly flung from the roof but had been found before Jenkins arrived at the scene.
Accountant Edward White was another witness Thursday, as he was in charge of transferring the divorce settlement from Depp’s account to Heard. White personally wrote the $200,000 checks to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and $100,000 to the American Civil Liberties Union. Then, across five various payments, White transferred the rest directly to Heard instead of making equal payments to the two organizations as Heard had pledged to do.
“I was chastised from making the payments by Ms. Heard’s counsel,” White said to the objection of Heard’s lawyers.
In addition to the $7 million divorce settlement, Depp paid $500,000 to Heard’s counsel and $13.5 million in community liabilities, a property policy that holds spouses liable for any debts regarding estates shared by the two. Depp owned all of his properties before he married Heard, according to White.

During cross-examination with Heard’s lawyers, White admitted that Depp had some built-up tax debts.
