White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham ridiculed the Democratic Party moments after Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the House of Representatives would move forward with a vote on impeaching President Trump.
On Thursday morning, Pelosi said that the House would draft up articles of impeachment as a result of Trump’s “failure to faithfully execute the law.” She added that it had gathered evidence from weeks of testimony in front of the House Intelligence Committee.
“[Pelosi and] the Democrats should be ashamed. [Trump] has done nothing but lead our country – resulting in a booming economy, more jobs & a stronger military, to name just a few of his major accomplishments. We look forward to a fair trial in the Senate,” Grisham tweeted.

Pelosi did not describe the impeachment articles or the timeline during her press conference, but Democrats have outlined a case that will likely focus on alleged abuses of power and obstruction of Congress. Democrats want to finish impeachment “expeditiously” and are hoping to vote on the articles before the House adjourns for the year on Dec. 20.
Democrats allege that Trump tried to bribe Ukraine government officials into investigating former Vice President Joe Biden by temporarily withholding $391 million in security aid until the investigation was agreed upon. The president has repeatedly denied the accusations and defended his July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which led to a whistleblower report.

Trump weighed in preemptively on Twitter, saying, “The Do Nothing Democrats had a historically bad day yesterday in the House. They have no Impeachment case and are demeaning our Country. But nothing matters to them, they have gone crazy. Therefore I say, if you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair….” He added in a subsequent tweet, “…..trial in the Senate, and so that our Country can get back to business. We will have Schiff, the Bidens, Pelosi and many more testify, and will reveal, for the first time, how corrupt our system really is. I was elected to “Clean the Swamp,” and that’s what I am doing!”
