‘Almost sinful’: Pelosi bashes Trump coronavirus response in private phone call with Democrats

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly unleashed on President Trump during a private phone call with her caucus, saying he was risking American lives by rushing to reopen the economy.

The California Democrat told colleagues from her party that Trump’s response to the coronavirus was “almost sinful,” Politico reported Monday, citing multiple sources who were on the call.

“The more misrepresentations he puts out there, the more it obscures the truth,” she said. “We have to insist upon the truth — what they’re saying is not knowledge, is not facts, is not real.”

Pelosi advised Democrats to voice their concerns about the president’s “complete failure” in his handling of the pandemic, especially in regard to testing and getting personal protective equipment to healthcare providers.

“And we cannot let them lie about it,” she said.

The House speaker has continuously criticized the president amid the coronavirus pandemic, calling his initial response “deadly.”

“The president, his denial at the beginning, was deadly. His delaying of getting equipment to where it — continues his delaying in getting equipment to where it’s needed is deadly,” she said in March. “This is such a tragedy. We don’t even know the magnitude of it because we don’t have adequate testing. As the president fiddles, people are dying.”

More than 23,000 people in the United States have died due to the coronavirus, and more than 580,000 have tested positive.
