President Trump says he carries a wad of cash in his pocket in order to tip people.
A photo of Trump boarding Air Force One with money, including a $20 bill, hanging out of his back right pocket led to speculation on social media Wednesday. When asked by reporters late Wednesday about the photo, Trump revealed he carried the money for altruistic purposes.
Pulling out a large wad of cash and holding it up he said, “I do like leaving tips to the hotel. I like to carry a little something. I like to give tips to the hotel. I’m telling you, maybe a president is not supposed to do it, but I like to leave a tip for the hotel, etc.”
Trump also noted the lack of the wallet was because he hasn’t “had to use a credit card in a long time.”
Trump mused over the photos when huddling with reporters aboard Air Force One as it headed back to Washington, D.C., from California.
“Oh, that’s funny. So the jacket was blowing up?” he said. “Boy, that’s a good picture. Hey, I’d like a piece of that picture.”
