Video shows thieves ramming U-Haul into local Georgia sporting goods store

Police in Douglasville, Georgia, are searching for suspects reportedly seen using a U-Haul to smash into a local sporting goods store to loot items.

Authorities said the suspects broke into Gable Sporting Goods early Thursday morning and stole a variety of firearms. Investigators are still examining the inventory and were immediately unaware of how many guns were stolen. Atlanta police told Fox 5 Atlanta that they found the U-Haul abandoned later that morning.

“They skipped over several counters and went to specific counters, which tells me that they knew what they were coming in here to get,” said Rome Smith, the store’s manager. Smith said he thought the crime was “methodical.”

At least six suspects were reportedly seen on video from a security camera. However, authorities didn’t release specifics on how many people were involved. The suspects allegedly bypassed the store’s updated security features, including steel bars and roll-up doors.

“You pour your heart and soul into this place, and it’s my livelihood, you know? This is my family up here, so this is tough. It’s really tough to see,” Smith said. “There’s really nothing we could have done differently.”

Police said they believe a second vehicle was used during the criminal act: an unmarked box truck.

Maj. J.R. Davidson with the Douglasville Police Department referred the Washington Examiner to the department’s Facebook page for updates and added that there is “no information to release beyond our latest post.”
