Trump: Virginia will turn red again after blackface, abortion, #MeToo scandals

President Trump predicted Thursday that Virginia would once again become a Republican stronghold after the state’s top three Democrats have been mired in scandals related to abortion, the #MeToo movement, and their prior decisions to wear blackface.

“Democrats at the top are killing the Great State of Virginia. If the three failing pols were Republicans, far stronger action would be taken. Virginia will come back HOME Republican) in 2020!” Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

In the 2016 presidential elections, Hillary Clinton won Virginia with 49.8 percent of the vote, while 44.4 percent voted for Trump. But now, the top three Democrats in Virginia are embroiled in scandals.

Northam was criticized nationwide for making comments last week that seemed to indicate his support for the abortion of babies as they are being born.

Then, a medical school yearbook page for Gov. Ralph Northam was found to include a picture of two people, one in blackface and another in a Ku Klux Klan robe. Northam first apologized for being one of the two people, but then said he was neither, although he admitted to wearing blackface when he dressed up as Michael Jackson.

Shortly after the the photo emerged, Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, who would take over for Northam if he were to step down, was accused of sexual assault. Vanessa Tyson said she felt compelled to come forward when she discovered that Fairfax could be the next governor of Virginia.

Tyson said Fairfax forced her to perform oral sex on him during a Democratic National Committee conference in 2004. Fairfax has denied the allegation.

Virginia’s attorney general, Mark Herring, is third in line to governorship, and recently admitted to wearing blackface.
