Sen. Lindsey Graham put the blame for the British ambassador’s resignation on the media instead of President Trump.
Kim Darroch, the British ambassador to the United States since 2016, resigned Wednesday amid increasing tensions with Trump after his unflattering assessment of the president was published in leaked diplomatic cables.
Trump said his administration would no longer work with Darroch, whom he called “a very stupid guy” and “a pompous fool,” following the Daily Mail’s publishing of the diplomat’s cables, in which Darroch called Trump “inept” and “incompetent.”
Graham said Darroch “did an outstanding job” in his post and he was “sorry to see” he had resigned.
“He got a raw deal from press,” Graham tweeted Wednesday.

Darroch was expected to stay as ambassador to the U.S. until the end of the year, but said in his resignation letter that “the current situation is making it impossible for me to carry out my role as I would like.”
