Police in Kentucky arrested the man they believe assaulted the mayor of Louisville over the weekend.
The Louisville Metro Police Department arrested 30-year-old Antwon M. Brown on Tuesday in connection to the Saturday assault of Mayor Greg Fischer. Authorities said Brown was arrested in Louisville “without incident.” He has been charged with one count of assault in the fourth degree.

“Mayor Fischer is well and appreciates the support he has received,” the Louisville Metro Police Department said in a press release announcing Brown’s arrest.
Assault in the fourth degree is a class A misdemeanor in Kentucky. The charge carries a maximum fine of $500 and up to 12 months in jail if convicted.
Louisville police added that the investigation into the assault of the mayor is ongoing.
Fischer, a Democrat, was at Fourth Street Live, an entertainment and shopping complex in downtown Louisville, when a man approached and punched him. The mayor was at the complex for a Juneteenth-related event.

Video of the assault shared on social media showed a man with dreadlocks walking up to Fischer before punching him in the face with his right arm. Fischer was knocked to the ground by the punch, and the suspect fled the scene.

A spokesperson for Fischer said on Saturday that the mayor was “doing fine” after the assault.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Fischer’s office for comment.
