Pelosi says Trump criminality ‘makes what Nixon did look almost small’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claimed that President Trump’s actions significantly outweigh the actions of President Richard Nixon that resulted in his resignation. The speaker of the House made the comparison during her weekly press conference on Thursday.

“Perhaps you have not heard me when I have said this is something we do with a heavy heart. This is very prayerful, because impeachment is a divisive thing in our country. It’s hard and the place that our country is now, it’s not a time where you go to 70% when President Nixon walked out of the White House,” she stated.

“It wasn’t there before he left, even two weeks before he left. It wasn’t there until the other shoe fell, and he walked out the door,” Pelosi went on. “By the way, what President Trump has done on the record in terms of acting to advantage a foreign power to help him in his own election and of the obstruction of information about that, the cover-up makes what Nixon did look almost small. Almost small.”

She then hedged the remarks by adding, “But again, an inquiry is an inquiry.”

Nixon resigned from the presidency in 1974 after members of his administration were implicated in a continuous attempt to sabotage the Democrats. The scandal reached the public’s eye after five individuals with ties to Nixon were tied to a break-in at the Democratic Party headquarters at the Watergate building in Washington, D.C. The scandal grew even larger after it was uncovered that the White House secretly recorded conversations. There was a chunk of the tapes that was missing, and it surrounded Nixon’s the Watergate break-in.

Former Nixon White House counsel John Dean claimed the evidence against Trump’s actions, in regards to holding up military aid meant for Ukraine until he got a favor in return, exceeds the evidence that was against Nixon during an appearance on CNN.
