Ohio congressman and former 2020 Democratic contender Tim Ryan endorsed Joe Biden for president.
Ryan, who ended his long-shot presidential campaign in October, is the first former 2020 candidate to make an endorsement in the Democratic primary.
He cited the former vice president’s appeal to flip states President Trump won in the 2016 election.
“I think this election for many, many Democrats — regardless of where you live — is about who can beat Donald Trump, and the key to that is who can beat Donald Trump in Michigan and Wisconsin and western Pennsylvania, in Ohio. And I’m convinced that’s Joe Biden,” Ryan told MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Wednesday.
Ryan said the remaining contenders are “great candidates,” but Biden has got the “touch with those blue-collar workers that we have to have if we’re going to beat Donald Trump.”
