President Trump warned on Tuesday that a Democratic wave in the upcoming midterm elections would lead to governing by “radicals.”
“Democrats like to campaign as moderates but they always govern like radicals,” President Trump said during a GOP fundraiser Tuesday evening in Washington, D.C., which also featured House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis.
Under a Democrat-controlled Congress, Trump warned of higher taxes, lax border security, and a stronger coalition of lawmakers looking to impeach him, he told members of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
“They are all Pelosi Democrats: weak on crime, weak on terrorism and weak on national defense,” he warned, referencing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
Trump also used his speech at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual March dinner to rehash old attacks on top Democrats such as Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., who he called a “low I.Q. individual,” and former 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, who called some of his supporters “deplorables.”
“The truth is the Democrats never have been more vulnerable because they’ve lost touch with normal, everyday, working people,” he argued.
The president also said that Republicans “should do great” in the upcoming midterm elections and teased a nationwide campaign effort he’ll embark on in order to ensure his party comes out on top.
“We’re going to defy the predictions once again. We will keep the House majority,” Trump said.
