Barack and Michelle Obama are buying a multi-million dollar estate in Martha’s Vineyard.
The former president and first lady are in escrow to purchase the property at 79 Turkeyland Cove Road in Edgartown, Massachusetts, from Boston Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck, TMZ reported Thursday.
The couple has been renting the beachfront property this summer. They reportedly offered less than the $14.85 million listing price.
The 7,000-square-foot house sits on more than 29 acres of private land along the shores of Edgartown Great Pond, according to the listing. It has seven bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms, a modern chef’s kitchen, and two guest wings. The master suite includes a fireplace, private sun deck, and views of the water. The house also comes with a two-car garage, boathouse, and jacuzzi.
“The long and winding driveway, sprawling lawn and incredible water views make for the perfect family compound setting for generations to come … Your summer days can be spent poolside in a garden-like setting with the sounds of the waves lapping in the distance, or exploring the expansive Great Pond and outer barrier beach for a full day on the water,” the listing says.

Grousbeck previously put the property on the market for $22.5 million in 2015. He cut the price to $16.25 million in 2018.
The Obamas also bought a home in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, D.C., for $8.1 million after leaving the White House. The couple said they would remain in Washington, at least until their youngest daughter Sasha finished high school. It remains unclear if the Obamas plan to maintain their Washington home as their primary residence after Sasha graduated from Sidwell Friends School in June.
The Martha’s Vineyard home where former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis resided in the late 1970s also recently went on the market. Her daughter Caroline Kennedy listed the 300-acre property, known as Red Gate Farm, for $65 million.
The Kennedy family has a long connection to the posh summer communities in New England. President John F. Kennedy spent his summers at the “Kennedy Compound” in Hyannis Port on Cape Cod.
Bill and Hillary Clinton have also summered in Martha’s Vineyard, both during the former president’s time in the White House and after. The couple vacationed there during the Monica Lewinsky scandal in 1998.
