READ: Opening statements from William Taylor and George Kent at first public impeachment hearing

The first two people to testify publicly in the impeachment hearings against President Trump gave lengthy opening statements.

Following remarks from both House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff and Republican Rep. Devin Nunes, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent, and acting U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor delivered their opening statements.

House Democrats are looking into whether Trump withheld military aid to Ukraine in exchange for investigations into the 2016 presidential election and political rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter’s connections to a Ukrainian energy company.
