Florida Gov. Rick Scott said Monday that Sen. Bill Nelson’s effort to re-examine invalid ballots in Florida shows the Democratic senator is a “sore loser” who can’t get over losing his seat.
“Bill Nelson is clearly a sore loser,” the Republican governor said on Fox News Monday. “He can’t stand the fact that he’s not going to be elected for what, the first time in decades.”
Scott noted that Nelson is pushing to re-examine ballots with signature problems, and said Nelson’s lawyer is claimed that their goal is to wrest the election win away from Scott.
“He’s just here to steal this election,” Scott said. “His lawyer came down here and said, I’m here to win the election. I’m not here to give a free and fair election, make sure votes are counted, no. He wants to win the election, that’s his only purpose.”
Scott is up less than 13,000 votes against Nelson, a margin that triggered an automatic recount. Scott said he filed lawsuits against election supervisors Brenda Snipes of Broward County and Susan Bucher of Palm Beach County over voting irregularities that he says violate Florida’s election laws.

“We won by 57,000 votes that night,” Scott said. “We know that since then, just in these two counties, 93,000 new votes showed up. How’d that happen?”
“We know that Brenda Snipes said that she found … she acknowledged, knows, that they were illegal,” he said. “She mixed them in with legal ballots. We know that happened.”
“We know that they tried to … continued to count ballots after the deadline. We know that,” Scott added.
Scott predicted that both he and Republican Ron DeSantis would hold their narrow leads in their races for the Senate and the governor’s mansion even after the required recount is done.
“We won. Ron DeSantis won,” Scott said. “We need to go forward and start thinking about our agendas.”
