Two women stabbed inside NYC’s Museum of Modern Art in chaotic scene

Two people were stabbed inside New York City’s Museum of Modern Art Saturday afternoon, leading to an evacuation of the building and chaos on the streets.

The two victims, both female, were transported to Bellevue Hospital and listed as in stable condition, the NYPD said in the immediate aftermath of the incident. Both are expected to survive their injuries. The alleged attacker, sources told ABC News, is believed to be a former employee who came back to the museum and attacked two ex-colleagues.

Videos that circulated across social media late Saturday showed crowds of people being ushered out of the building by security with no explanation.

Multiple witnesses tweeted about officers “heading to the coat room.”

“As we were about to walk inside, we saw hundreds of people running out all at once,” Wendy Keffer, a tourist visiting the city from Austin, Texas, told the New York Post.

Keffer was entering the museum with her husband and children when the mayhem began and told the paper they heard people saying, “Shooter, shooter, shooter,” as they walked through the doors.

Authorities have not released the victims’ or suspect’s identities.

The suspect, according to the Post, was known to police and continues to be on the loose.

Those in the Midtown neighborhood of Manhattan were urged in a tweet from the NYPD to avoid the blocks surrounding the museum as an active police investigation was underway.
