Biden swipes right on new vaccine outreach campaign

President Joe Biden is giving people a shot at love, hoping it puts more COVID-19 vaccine shots in arms in the process.

The White House announced Friday it is partnering with a number of dating apps to ramp up vaccine awareness efforts ahead of the summer.

Tinder, Hinge, Match, OkCupid, BLK, Chispa, Plenty of Fish, Bumble, and Badoo will all now display badges on profiles alerting prospective matches they’ve been vaccinated and will offer vaccinated users “free premium benefits” and other special in-app promotions.

“According to research from OKCupid, people who are vaccinated or plan to get vaccinated receive 14 percent more ‘matches’ than people who don’t plan to get vaccinated,” the White House said in a statement. “It’s easier than ever to get vaccinated, with more than 80,000 locations with vaccines and 90% of Americans live within 5 miles of a vaccine.”

Earlier in the spring, Biden outlined a goal of having 70% of adults in the country receive at least their first coronavirus shot by July 4.

As of Friday, the White House estimates that roughly 60% of the country’s adult population meets that threshold.
