Pepco just added a feature to its Web site that company officials hope will allow its customers to better manage their rising energy bills.
The feature, “Energy Know How Solutions,” allows residents to generate detailed information on their energy payments, including specific costs for appliances so that they can concretely see where they are wasting power most.
“We think it will be a big help in lowering their electrical rates and understanding their electric bills,” Pepco spokesman Bob Dobkin said Friday.
The need for extra information on electric rates couldn’t come at a better time. Pepco announced in the spring that its rates would soar by about 38.5 percent starting June 1. On average, the increase has equated to customers paying almost $40 more a month.
Dobkin said the new feature went up this week, so it’s too early to tell how many customers are utilizing it.
In addition to showing energy cost for specific equipment in people’s homes, the tool also will provide a comparison to similar household or businesses in the area, meaning residents can see if they’re paying more or less than they should be.
Altogether, Pepco serves 296,750 customers in Montgomery County, and 215,000 in Prince George’s County.
