People living in Virginia could be eligible to receive some extra pocket cash if they receive tax rebates from the state.
The state of Virginia will give nearly anyone who had a tax liability in 2021 a tax rebate if they apply, with up to $250 given to individual filers and up to $500 to people who file jointly. Anyone who files early can receive their rebates as soon as October, according to the Virginia Department of Taxation.
“The rebate is funded by the state’s General Fund revenues, as set forth in the 2022 Appropriation Act,” a department spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.

The department defines tax liability as “the amount of tax you owe throughout the year minus any credits,” such as credit for taxes a person paid to another state or credit for people with low income.
Taxpayers who received refunds by direct deposit in 2022 will likely receive their rebates by direct deposit in the same bank accounts. Other eligible taxpayers will receive paper checks in the mail for their rebates. Any changes made to a person’s name, address, or Social Security number will need to be made by Aug. 15.
Virginia residents have until Nov. 1 to file their taxes and qualify for the rebate. Not every taxpayer will be eligible.
