Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski repeatedly swore at Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee during his second appearance before the panel in March, even telling one member he wasn’t going to answer their “fucking” question.
Lewandowski insisted he would only answer “relevant” questions before using the expletives, according to a CNN report published Thursday, and he did not cower or relent when Democrats like Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., pushed back on his recalcitrance.
Republicans reportedly sided with Lewandowski, arguing he had endured hours of scrutiny from the committee before tensions boiled over.
Lewandowski this week did not deny a heated exchange took place.
“I had to repeat on multiple occasions that there was no collusion, cooperation, or coordination because the Democrats couldn’t understand my plain English way of speaking,” he told CNN.
Lewandowski, who remains a Trump confidant, faced the panel for the second time in March, after first advising members in January he wasn’t prepared to respond to their queries about Russian interference in the 2016 election.
He also told them he would not be drawn into lines of inquiry related to incidents after he left the Trump campaign in June 2016, including the July Trump Tower meeting between campaign aides and Russians or the firing of former FBI Director James Comey in May 2017.
The House Intelligence Committee wrapped up its probe into Russian meddling in March, publishing a report that found no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.
Lewandowski’s interview was the final one conducted by the panel as part of its investigation.
