Green Party nominee Jill Stein defended Ted Cruz for not endorsing Republican nominee Donald Trump Wednesday night.
“I rarely agree with Ted Cruz. But he’s right that you shouldn’t vote for a candidate just because a party tells you to. Vote your values,” Stein tweeted late Wednesday.

Stein’s message comes after Cruz, who was invited to speak at the convention by Trump, did not endorse the official nominee and instead told Republicans to vote their conscience in November. It is an appeal to progressives to do the same, rather than potentially voting for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Stein has offered her slot as the Green Party nominee to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has not conceded, but is not expected to receive the Democratic nomination next week.
