In his special counsel report, Jack Smith rebuked Donald Trump for claiming his two criminal cases were politically motivated, calling the president-elect’s accusations “laughable” and defending his decision to bring charges.
Smith wrote in the 174-page report, released by the Department of Justice in the early hours of Tuesday morning, that his team “stood up for the rule of law” by bringing the two historic criminal indictments against Trump over the 2020 election and the president-elect’s handling of classified documents. Smith noted that the charging decisions rested with him.
