Obama calls Trump to congratulate him on his victory

President Obama congratulated his surprise successor Donald Trump early Wednesday morning following his victory, according to reports.

Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said the Democratic president called Trump while the president-elect was still speaking to supporters at his New York City victory party, the Associated Press reported. Trump called him back for what Conway described as a “very nice talk” and the two may meet Thursday.

Obama had campaigned heavily for his former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, arguing that Trump was unfit for office. Clinton conceded the election earlier in the morning and called Trump herself. A number of international leaders have expressed their congratulations, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
