The man suspected of shooting up his Panama City, Fla., apartment complex on Tuesday was found dead Tuesday in his residence, according to police.
The Bay County Sheriff’s office confirmed to CBS News that 49-year-old Kevin Robert Holroyd had barricaded himself in his apartment after opening fire and exchanging gunfire with police.
Police responded to reports of an active shooter in the area early Tuesday afternoon.
Witnesses told CBS that they heard somewhere between 50 and 100 shots fired, and police confirmed that about 100 rounds were fired.
The Panama City News Herald reported that local schools and businesses were placed on lockdown during and following the sound of gunfire in the area.

One person sustained a minor injury as a result of the exchange of gunfire, and was transported to a local hospital, city spokeswoman Caitlin Lawrence told reporters Tuesday.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott was briefed on the incident and provided what assistance he could with the information he had at the time.
“I’ve spoken with Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford to offer any state law enforcement assistance his office may need. FDLE, Florida Highway Patrol & FWC officers are currently assisting,” Scott posted to Twitter.

Holroyd was wanted in connection with a homicide in Santa Rosa Beach, about an hour’s drive from Panama City.
