– The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s response via an article on the government agency’s website answering the question “are Mermaids real.” It seems, according to the BBC, that at least two people had written the agency after watching “Mermaids: The Body Found,” on the Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet network. Of course, the television show was fiction. And NOAA’s explanation came from publicly sourced documents because, well, “we don’t have a mermaid science program,” NOAA spokeswoman Carol Kavanagh told the BBC.
