Elon Musk refused to comment on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s remarks that the tech billionaire supports Texas’s social policies, which includes its heartbeat abortion law.
Abbott is adamant that companies like Musk’s SpaceX and Tesla will not abandon the state over the statute, which prohibits abortions following the detection of a fetal heartbeat.
“Elon had to get out of California because in part of the social policies in California,” the Republican governor said Thursday. “Elon consistently tells me that he likes the social policies in the state of Texas.”

Musk responded to a clip of Abbott’s interview on Twitter but did not comment on the law itself.
“In general, I believe government should rarely impose its will upon the people, and, when doing so, should aspire to maximize their cumulative happiness,” he wrote. “That said, I would prefer to stay out of politics.”

The Texas Heartbeat Act is considered one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the nation, and it makes no exception for rape or incest. There is an exception for medical emergencies.
