Ramaphosa accuses Trump of making ‘punitive’ decisions on ‘misinformation’ and ‘distortions’

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa called President Donald Trump’s decision not to invite his country to the 2026 G20 summit in Miami, Florida, ‘regrettable.’ He called the decision “punitive measures” based on a misunderstanding of his country, and said the choice was predicated on “misinformation” and “distortions.”

“It is regrettable that despite the efforts and numerous attempts by President Ramaphosa and his administration to reset the diplomatic relationship with the U.S., President Trump continues to apply punitive measures against South Africa based on misinformation and distortions about our country,” said Vincent Magwenya, a spokesman for the Ramaphosa administration, in a press release.

He also touted the success of the 2025 G20 summit, held last week in Johannesburg, South Africa. He said it was “hailed” by attendees and that South Africa deserves to attend next year’s summit. The U.S. boycotted this year’s summit at the direction of Trump.

“The G20 South Africa 2025 Leaders Summit attended by several Heads of State and Goverment, was hailed by all those who attended the summit as one of the most successful summits,” Vincent Magwenya, a spokesman for the Ramaphosa administration, said in a press release. “The summit produced a declaration that affirmed the indisputable strength and value of multilateralism in response to the most pressing challenges facing the world.”

Ramaphosa’s criticisms of Trump come after he announced he was stopping all payments and subsidies to the country due to racial violence and discrimination against white farmers in South Africa. In a post to his Truth Social account on Wednesday afternoon, he accused South Africa of numerous human rights abuses and “killing white people” and allowing their farms and land to be confiscated from them without any consequences.

US TO STOP ALL PAYMENTS AND SUBSIDIES TO SOUTH AFRICA, ‘WILL NOT’ INVITE COUNTRY TO NEXT G20 SUMMIT

“The United States did not attend the G20 in South Africa, because the South African Government refuses to acknowledge or address the horrific Human Right Abuses endured by Afrikaners, and other descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers,” Trump posted. “To put it more bluntly, they are killing white people, and randomly allowing their farms to be taken from them.”

He further blasted the country, claiming it was “not a country worthy of membership anywhere.”

“South Africa has demonstrated to the World they are not a country worthy of Membership anywhere, and we are going to stop all payments and subsidies to them, effective immediately,” Trump added.
