New guidelines given for visitors to Naval Academy

The Naval Academy revised its guidelines for visitors. The new hours for general visitation arefrom 6 a.m. or sunrise, whichever is later, to 5 p.m. or sunset, whichever is later.

The academy, which hosts more than 1.5 million visitors every year, said it welcomes visitors but wants to remind them that the school is an active military installation and proper security measures are required.

Vehicles without a Department of Defense sticker are not allowed on the grounds; an exception is made for cars with valid handicapped identification, which are subject to a search. All visitors must leave the campus within 30 minutes of the end of their event.

All visitors over 16 need to present a photo identification before entering the academy. Minors without identification must be accompanied by an adult, a member of the school community or be a registered participant for an event on the campus.
