Trump announcement of coronavirus diagnosis becomes his most shared and liked tweet

President Trump’s late-night announcement that he tested positive for COVID-19 sent Twitter into a frenzy and quickly became his most-shared and “liked” tweet ever.

Trump sent out the tweet Friday morning at about 1 a.m. As of Friday afternoon, the missive has racked up nearly 400,000 retweets, some 482,000 quote tweets, and 1.5 million “likes.” The tweet has also generated more than half a million replies.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” Trump said in the tweet.

The president, known for his prolific Twitter habits, has not sent out another tweet or retweeted anything since announcing his diagnosis.

Prior to the tweet in the early morning, Trump’s most-shared tweet was from last year after rapper A$AP Rocky was freed from a Swedish prison and released back to the U.S., according to Axios. That tweet garnered 310,000 retweets and quote tweets, in addition to 818,000 likes.

“A$AP Rocky released from prison and on his way home to the United States from Sweden. It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!” Trump said in the tweet.

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said Friday that the president is experiencing “mild symptoms” from the virus. First lady Melania Trump, who also tested positive, said she too has mild symptoms.
