President Trump said Wednesday that the Democratic front-runner trying to pick off a Republican seat in Georgia is backed by “Hollywood,” and predicted that Democrats would ultimately come up short in the June 20 runoff election.
“Dems failed in Kansas and are now failing in Georgia,” Trump tweeted. “Great job Karen Handel! It is now Hollywood vs. Georgia on June 20th.”

Handel, who has served as Georgia’s secretary of state, was the top GOP vote-getter Tuesday night, and will face off against Jon Ossoff. Ossoff won 48.1 percent of the vote Tuesday, close to the 50 percent he needed to win the seat outright.
Trump was also referring to the unsuccessful effort by Democrats last week to pick up a House seat in Kansas.
Handel herself accused Ossoff of being a candidate backed mostly by liberals from outside the state, including those in California.
“Ninety-five precent of Jon Ossoff’s funds came from outside of the state of Georgia, the vast majority of it from California, New York, Massachusetts,” Handel said on Fox News on Wednesday morning.
