WATCH: Jesse Watters gives Fox highest-rated 7 pm show in over a year

Fox News’s latest show, Jesse Watters Primetime, has netted more than 3.5 million total nightly viewers since its premiere on Monday.

In the New York-based show, host Jesse Watters invites viewers to engage with him through text messaging.

“You know how my mom’s always texting me?” Watters said in an interview with TheWrap. “We didn’t think that was fair for just my mom to be able to text me, so we’re going to be putting out a number where the whole country can text me. We’re going to have an open line of communication with the country, so I’ll be listening to them.”

As a former co-host of The Five, Watters introduced a segment called “Mom Texts,” in which he occasionally shared messages his mom sent him.

Now as host of Jesse Watters Primetime, Watters displayed a phone number for guests to text him. Watters said he wants the show to entertain but still press into major topics of news, politics, culture, crime, and tabloid.

“That’s what the show is about: Listening and then rallying for the people,” Watters told TheWrap. “We’ll be having a segment at the end of each show where I will be putting people’s texts on the air, and I’ll be responding to them because we want to hear from the people.”

Watters debuted as the new permanent host of Fox’s 7 p.m. ET hour with 3.8 million total viewers on Monday — a network best in that time slot since Jan. 6, 2021.

Tuesday’s numbers revealed 3.6 million viewers tuned in, beating CNN’s 653,000 viewers and MSNBC’s 1.3 million viewers. The show also netted an increase in the key 25-54 demographic on Tuesday with 558,000 viewers versus Monday’s 537,000.

Overall, Jesse Watters Primetime was the third most watched cable telecast on Tuesday behind Fox’s The Five and Tucker Carlson Tonight.
