Real estate mogul Donald Trump called hoping for the burst housing bubble of the mid-2000s, which cost many Americans their homes, “business” when called on his comments by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton Monday.
The former secretary of state said Trump rooted for the housing crisis to happen in order to make money. Trump retorted that was just part of his life as a private citizen.
“He said, back in 2006, ‘Gee, I hope it does collapse because then I can go in, buy some and make some money. And it did collapse,” Clinton said.
“That’s called business by the way,” Trump interjected.
