Prince William County man shoots at police during car chase A Haymarket man faces five counts of attempted capital murder charges for shooting at police during a high-speed car chase early Sunday morning. Police responded to a domestic dispute call at the home of Jason Michael Paul, 38, in the 5600 block Wheelwright Way. Police say that upon their arrival, Paul sped away in his Hyundai Santa Fe before hitting a median at Route 15 and Dominion Valley Drive. He then stepped out of his car and began shooting at the officers — who returned fire — before pulling away again. Paul was then shot in the hand by police and taken into custody. He also faces one count of attempted aggravated malicious wounding, one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, six counts of the use of a firearm in commission of a felony, one count of felony eluding and one count of destruction of property. No officers were injured. A court date is set for Feb. 7. Pedestrian killed by car in Fairfax County
Fairfax County Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash on Saturday night. A Hispanic man in his 50s was crossing Richmond Highway, just north of Janna Lee Avenue, when he was struck by a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 58-year-old Maryland man. The victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he died. Police said that neither speed nor alcohol was a factor in the crash and that the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk. The victim’s name is being held pending family notification.
