Immigration activists accuse guard of 'violence' after they barricaded prison parking lot

A group of protesters with Never Again Action, which is opposed to the Trump administration’s immigration policies, blocked the entrance to the parking lot of Wyatt Detention Center in Central Falls, Rhode Island. The center works with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to hold immigrants and children that cross the U.S. southern border illegally. The protesters had strategically blocked the parking lot to block guards leaving and arriving for the night shift.

The footage shows a black truck turn into the parking lot entrance and honk at group of protesters. The activists screamed and many began shouting at the truck’s driver for the stunt. The driver then drove forward into the crowd. Two activists were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to the Hill.

Earlier in the night, police had attempted to remove the protesters from blocking the parking lot’s entrance. Roughly 30 of the protesters refused to move.

“Last night we experienced a small example of the violence that ICE uses against our immigrant neighbors every day. As Jews, our families taught us the lessons of the Holocaust, and we promised that we would speak out and act if we ever saw the warning signs of a group of people being targeted, dehumanized, and rounded up,” Never Again Action said in a statement.

“We are answering the call of our ancestors to sound the alarm: #NeverAgainIsNow. Every person in the United States needs to join the fight to close the concentration camps, shut down ICE, and secure permanent protection for all undocumented people in the U.S.,” the statement said.
