Pink was the color of choice at this celebration

The Carriage House at Evergreen, located off Charles Street just north of Loyola College, was anything but green recently.

The second annual Flamingo Ball, which benefited the Hampden Family Center, attracted more than 200 people to this colorful event. Rachel Mygatt, president of the HFC?s board of directors, attributed the center?s success to its “thankless volunteers and the longtime support of its board.” Speaking of which, Leonard Siems, one of those longtime board members, made the evening a family affair by bringing his wife, Virginia, and their two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Caryn Siems, and Porter and Karen Siems.

Thanks to the folks at The Wine Source, supporters enjoyed fine wines and tasty hors d?oeuvres while doing some serious silent-auction bidding. The treat of choice was shrimp, and for good reason. Did you know that without a heavy diet of shrimp, the pink flamingo would not be so pink? In fact, its feathers would turn white.

“Another good reason to overindulge on the shrimp cocktail ? that way I can keep my glow,” HFC board member Dina Mallis Klicos said.

Proceeds from the event continue the mission of the Hampden Family Center, which, according to HFC Executive Director Steve Vassor, is to enrich the lives of neighborhood residents through education and professional support and to encourage individual growth and community fellowship. More than $50,000 was raised ? a pink feather in HFC?s cap. For information on the center, visit www.hampdenfamilycenter.org.

STARS OF INDUSTRY

More than 900 guests gathered at Martin?s West for the recent Restaurant Association of Maryland?s Industry Awards Gala. This is where the greats of the restaurant industry gather to honor themselves.

Spotted were former Baltimore Raven ? now New England Patriot ? Adalius Thomas, who was enjoying the event with Steve de Castro at the Ruth Chris Steak House table. And Baltimore Area Convention and Visitor Association President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Noonan dined with Eddie Dopkin at the Classic Catering table.

The coolest table was that of public relations guru Dot Fuchs, who was hosting Style Magazine editor Brian Lawrence, Reagan (part of the Mix 106.5 morning team of “Jo-Jo and Reagan”), Baltfoodies.com?s Lars Rusin, Downtown Diane and yours truly. A very popular locale was the martini bar, which featured Snow Queen Vodka ? new to the Maryland area, according to libations expert Richard Slaughter.

LEGAL BEAGLE BASH

The 2007 Partners for Justice cocktail party brought more than 50 lawyers, judges and Legal Aid Bureau staff together for a fun evening recently at Lillies, on the harbor in Federal Hill. This event was Legal Aid?s way of saying thank you for the support of the Maryland State Bar Association in providing free legal services to the poor.

The guests included John Isbister, Broughton and Ray Earnest, Frank and Sally Gray, Andrew Jay Graham, Dan Shealer and Philip Andrews.

Some members of the bench included Court of Special Appeals Judge Timothy Meredith and Baltimore City Circuit judges Pamela White, Allen Schwait, George Russell III, Thomas Waxter and Robert Kershaw. For information, call the Legal Aid Bureau at 410-951-7683.
