Jeh Johnson: Dallas shooter acted alone, was not motivated by terrorist organization

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson confirmed “there appears to have been one gunman” involved in the Dallas shootings Thursday night that left five police officers dead and wounded seven others.

“At this time, there appears to have been one gunman with no known links to or inspiration from any international terrorist organization,” Johnson told reporters about 25-year-old Micah Xavier Johnson. The security chief said he chose to make his remarks from 1 Police Plaza in New York City as a symbolic move to show he “stand[s] with law enforcement.”

Dallas officials initially declined to identify the number of suspects Friday morning after a chaotic night of carnage. Police said they had three people in custody Thursday night as they engaged in a standoff with Johnson, who was killed by a robot-delivered bomb hours into his attack.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said Johnson was motivated by recent events and had specifically gone after white police officers.
