House Democrats will hear from former Attorney General Eric Holder, former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe and former Vice President Joe Biden at their Wednesday retreat in Cambridge, Md., where they will strategize about how to win back the House and Senate.
The theme for the group of Democratic lawmakers is “United For A Better Tomorrow” as they look to hone their “vision for the future,” according to the caucus.
Biden is slated to kick off the conference on Wednesday in a welcome address to attendees. The majority of other speakers are expected to address the caucus on Thursday.
The three speakers announced Monday — Holder, McAuliffe, and attorney Preet Bharara — all have been outspoken against President Trump during his first year in office. Holder has focused on Democratic efforts towards redistricting in 2020, while McAuliffe recently exited the Virginia governor’s mansion after fellow Democrat Ralph Northam took office last month. Meanwhile, Bharara, who was fired by Trump from his post as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, has been vocal on Twitter about his opposition to the president.
Among the others expected to make speeches are House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez.
The conference comes only nine months before the midterm elections. Democrats need to win 24 seats to win back the House, and on average, the party opposite the president has gained 26 seats in the first-term midterm elections dating back to the conclusion of World War II.
