The Alliance for Justice blasted President Trump’s decision to nominate Judge Neil Gorsuch to the fill the vacant Supreme Court seat as “disastrous” on Tuesday night.
The Alliance for Justice will serve as one of the chief organizations fighting conservatives’ efforts to confirm the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals judge.
“Judge Neil Gorsuch is a disastrous choice for the U.S. Supreme Court – especially now, given the president’s repeated demonstrations of contempt for our democratic institutions,” said Nan Aron, Alliance for Justice president. “Judge Gorsuch’s record shows no sign that he would offer an independent check on the dangerous impulses of this administration. What it does show is that he would put the agenda of powerful special interests ahead of the rights of everyday people, and work to undermine countless laws that protect consumers and workers; safeguard clean air and water; ensure safe food and medicine; and protect civil rights.
“He would also endanger women’s rights and the rights of LGBTQ communities. Our Supreme Court is the crown jewel in our justice system, and we must not let it be packed by partisan ideologues who are beholden to an authoritarian executive’s extreme and unpredictable agenda.”
The Alliance for Justice is one of several liberal groups that planned demonstrations outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday night for after Trump’s selection. The groups began preparing their demonstration before Trump’s selection was made public, as the groups took issue with the individuals Trump identified on his short lists of candidates.
