Former Today anchor Matt Lauer allegedly had an affair with famous and well-respected television personality.
According to Page Six, who agreed not to name the woman, she no longer works for the network and signed a nondisclosure agreement when she left NBC.
“Matt had influence over everyone’s career — one word and your career would be sunk. I know there was a clear imbalance of power in this woman’s relationship with Matt,” a source said of the alleged affair.
The revelation comes as NBC continues to deal with the fallout from Ronan Farrow’s new book Catch and Kill, which claims that Lauer and another executive repeatedly harassed an unnamed former broadcaster at the network, making lewd comments and damaging her career when she wouldn’t go along with their propositions.
“I was like meat on a hook … I would walk into work with a knot in my stomach. I would come home and cry,” she told Farrow. “My career took a sharp nosedive.”
The woman was forced by NBC to sign a stringent nondisclosure agreement barring her from future legal action against the network or from speaking out negatively about her time there. It isn’t clear if the woman is the same person who reportedly had an affair with Lauer.
Lauer, 61, has denied all wrongdoing despite a bevy of accusations against him, including one from Brooke Nevils, who claimed he raped her while on assignment at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
