Richard Burr subpoenaing Donald Trump Jr. is ‘100% un-American’: Spokesman

A spokesman for Donald Trump Jr. took a shot at Republican Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr for subpoenaing the president’s son for additional testimony.

Andrew Surabian called the subpoena “authoritarian” and “100% un-American” in a tweet Saturday.

“Don isn’t a govt. employee,” Surabian said. “Has testified 20+ hours already & was cleared of any crimes by Mueller. This govt. harassment campaign of a private citizen is 100% un-American.”

Trump Jr. was not charged in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, but the Republican-led committee subpoenaed him Wednesday to answer additional questions. He previously answered the committee’s questions in December 2017.

He testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee in September 2017, when he said he was only “peripherally aware” of a proposal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. But President Trump’s former longtime lawyer Michael Cohen testified in February that he had briefed the president’s son on the project about 10 times.

Mueller wrapped up his investigation in March, submitting a 448-page report to Attorney General William Barr. However, the Senate Intelligence Committee is still investigating Russia’s efforts to influence the 2016 election.

The president said he was surprised by the subpoena.

“Frankly for my son, after being exonerated, to now get a subpoena to go again, to speak again, after close to 20 hours of telling everybody that would listen about a nothing meeting? Yeah, I’m pretty surprised,” the president said Thursday. “The last thing he needs is Washington, D.C. He would rather not ever be involved.”
