A 70-year-old woman was mugged in the lobby of her own San Francisco housing complex Sunday.
Four juveniles approached the woman, only identified as Mrs. Ren, asking her what time it was. Then they began searching her, finding and taking her iPhone 7. Ren tried to escape to the elevator, but they pulled her out and onto the ground.
Her lobby’s security footage caught the juveniles hitting and kicking her in the head while she was on the floor. This was reportedly Ren’s first time leaving her apartment since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ren immediately got up after the four left the lobby with her phone and attempted to hide in the hallway. However, her attackers returned, pulling, pushing, and hitting her again to also steal her keys.
The video, posted by reporter Dion Lim, received over 789,000 views on Twitter. A later reposting of the video by the Libs of TikTok account saw more than 760,000 views.
“I am in awe of this family’s bravery. They did not hesitate to speak to me — and go on camera,” Lim captioned the video on her Instagram account. “They said it was important ‘so people know and so for other people to be aware and safe.’ It broke my heart that they knew me from my reporting but ‘never imagined meeting you under these circumstances.’ They hope changes will be made so the complex and surrounding areas are safe.”
