Trump tells Americans to ‘get smart’ after machete attacker shot in Paris

President Trump urged the U.S. to “get smart” after a man wielding a machete rushed a group of soldiers in Paris before being shot Friday morning.

CNN reported a man with a machete ran toward group of soldiers and guards near the Louvre museum. The man was brought down by five gunshots fired by the soldiers. According to police, the man shouted “Allahu akbar,” which means “God is greatest.”

Trump’s first reaction was to warn Americans.

“A new radical Islamic terrorist has just attacked in Louvre Museum in Paris. Tourists were locked down. France on edge again. GET SMART U.S.” he tweeted.

According to French police, the man was wearing two backpacks but was not carrying any explosives. He survived the attack after being shot in the stomach and was arrested. One French soldier was slightly injured by a cut to the scalp.

The attack led to 250 visitors to the Louvre being locked down and taken to a secure area, before being evacuated.
