Maryland police arrested the daughter of a former U.S. diplomat for allegedly stabbing a man to death.
The Montgomery County Police Department arrested Sophia Negroponte, 27, at her home in Rockville, Maryland, on Thursday night, according to a statement from police. Negroponte is the daughter of a former U.S. diplomat, John Negroponte.
Police arrested Negroponte after responding to reports of a stabbing. Police found Yousuf Rasmussen, 24, “inside his residence suffering from what appeared to be a cutting wound.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that Rasmussen and Negroponte knew each other and that a fight broke out between them over a disagreement in Rasmussen’s home. Negroponte has since been charged with first-degree murder.
John Negroponte held posts in Honduras, Mexico, and the Philippines. His served as ambassador to the United Nations from 2001 to 2004. His last post as an ambassador was to Iraq from 2004 to 2005. Negroponte also served as the first director of national intelligence under former President George W. Bush from 2005 to 2007.
