CNN anchor: Sondland testimony guarantees House will impeach Trump

CNN anchor John King argued that Gordon Sondland’s testimony officially “guarantees” that the House of Representatives will vote to impeach President Trump.

King made the remark during the network’s coverage of Sondland’s testimony in front of the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday. The ambassador to the European Union affirmed a quid pro quo agreement for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to secure a meeting and phone call with Trump. But, he also reiterated the fact that he has no direct evidence to tie those claims to the aid that Trump had held up.

“What Sondland did today was guarantee the House of Representatives is going to impeach the president of the United States. If you had any doubt, if you had any doubt that the Democrats were going to blink at the last minute, that the Democrats were going to say ‘because of this witness we’re not so sure, let’s leave it to the voters,'” King added.

“Forget about that,” he continued. “They now have Gordon Sondland, the central figure who says everyone was in the loop and everyone knew this is what we were doing and it came from the president and he told us to work through Rudy. That’s all the Democrats need to go forward.”

King also pointed out that there’s no evidence to suggest that any GOP members would support impeachment.

The anchor’s remarks are similar to those of former independent counsel Ken Starr, who suggested that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff probably feels as though Trump committed bribery as a result of hearing Sondland’s account of events.
