Cast out of Monopoly, the clothes iron endures

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Even with the rise of wrinkle-free fabrics and the decision to nix it as a Monopoly token, the clothes iron is holding its own.

Market research group Euromonitor International says U.S. iron sales are up nearly 3 percent overall from 2007 to 2012. And steam generator irons that make more steam than traditional ones and speed up the process experienced what the group called “enormous growth.”
