EXCLUSIVE — A Virginia-based political action committee has launched a “five-figure” digital ad buy targeting two Democratic members of Congress for their ties to a state delegate who sought to criminalize parents who do not affirm a child’s gender identity.
The ads from the political action committee Fight for Schools and Families attempt to tie Reps. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) and Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) to state delegate Elizabeth Guzman (D), who recently said she wished to reintroduce legislation that would expand the definition of criminal child abuse to include parents who do not affirm their child’s chosen sexual or gender identity.
“The radical left has lost its mind, they want felony charges if you say a boy is a boy and a girl is a girl,” a narrator says in the twin ads, before adding “we’ll remember in November.”
NEW AD BLASTS DEMOCRAT’S RECORD ON PARENTAL RIGHTS IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA RACE
Ian Prior, the executive director of Fight for Schools, noted in a statement to the Washington Examiner that several school districts in Virginia already believe that parents who refuse to affirm a child’s transgender identity “should be considered imminent safety risks.”
“Not only do Abigail Spanberger and Jennifer Wexton support schools doing this, but one of their top surrogates even proposed a bill that would require all schools to report such parents as child abusers and could result in them losing their children and being prosecuted for felonies,” Prior told the Washington Examiner. “Virginia voters need to know just how radical and anti-parent Spanberger and Wexton truly are.”
In a statement to the Washington Examiner, Rep. Spanberger reiterated past statements that she does not support Guzman’s proposed legislation.
“It’s unclear how this proposed legislation intends to actually help transgender children and their families, which is what we should focus on,” Spanberger said.

Wexton also distanced herself from Guzman’s proposal.
“As a mom and the only parent of kids in our public schools in this race, ensuring all children have the opportunity to receive a world-class education has always been a priority for me,” Wexton told the Washington Examiner in a statement. “I believe that parents have the most important role to play in helping their kids get on a pathway to success for their future, and don’t support proposals that would put parents in jail for not supporting their child’s gender identity or sexual orientation.”
