NYC mother stabbed nearly 60 times before body found in duffel bag: Report

A New York City mother whose body was found in a duffel bag Saturday was brutally stabbed dozens of times, authorities say.

Orsolya Gaal, 51, whose body was found beside a sidewalk in Queens a half-mile from her home, sustained around 60 sharp force injuries to her neck, torso, and left arm, law enforcement sources with knowledge of the autopsy told the New York Post.

The autopsy reportedly revealed that Gaal had puncture wounds to her carotid artery and trachea as well as inside the palms of her hands.

The body of Gaal, a stay-at-home mother of two, was first found by a man walking his dog just after 8 a.m. Saturday. When police arrived, they discovered a trail of blood leading from the duffel bag to Gaal’s home.

Gaal’s husband told the New York Post that he and the couple’s 17-year-old son were out of town at the time, reportedly touring colleges. Their 13-year-old son was at home and, according to PIX11, Gaal told him she was going out to see a show but ended up meeting up with a man. Police told the news outlet the man killed Gaal in her basement before putting her body in a duffel bag.

Another account suggests Gaal met up with friends Friday night in Manhattan before she was killed, as reported by the New York Post.

Surveillance footage around Gaal’s residence appears to show an unidentified person dragging a duffel bag along the street hours before her body was found. The suspected killer sent a threatening text message to the husband that said, “Your whole family is next,” police told PIX11.

Gaal’s killer likely knew her, as there were no signs of a break-in at the residence, and the attack appeared to be personal, police told the New York Post.
